Johnson Osei, the CEO of Jerk King, initially delved into the restaurant industry as an accountant but found his true calling in Caribbean cuisine. Alongside his wife, Elizabeth, who serves as the Vice-President and Director of Operations, they’ve cultivated a friendly atmosphere where guests can savor authentic Caribbean flavors. Each restaurant in the chain reflects the Osei family’s commitment and dedication to creating not just delicious dishes but also provide excellent service to their patrons.
With a professional foundation in accounting and an ardent love for Caribbean culinary traditions, Johnson Osei envisioned opening a Caribbean eatery in Toronto in 1998, birthing what is now known as Jerk King (formerly Marcus Garvey Restaurant). Viewing Jerk King as an embodiment of Caribbean culture that he hopes to pass on to his children one day, Johnson has expansive plans for the future, including franchising and expanding to new locations, both locally and internationally. He envisions Jerk King as a cultural offering and a hub for Caribbean food enthusiasts who share his passion for delectable dishes like Jerk Chicken and Roti.

FAQs
Candidates will need $300,000 in liquid capital and a minimum net worth of $500,000 to be eligible.
We wish we could tell you but so much depends on where you locate your business, how well you train your staff, how closely you follow our operating standards, your customer service standards and how much you market the business, what time of year you open, etc. We recommend that you prepare a business plan and have your accountant or other professional advisor review and comment.
We estimate that you can be open between 6 and 12 months from the signing of the Franchise Agreement to opening.
Food industry experience is not required but experience in owning or managing a business is helpful. Our training program will teach you what you need to know to operate a Jerk King restaurant.
Our focus right now is on expanding in the U.S. and Canada. However, we’re open to expanding into new markets as long as we can provide the proper support. If you’re interested in bringing Jerk King to your country, fill out the application and let’s talk.
Single unit franchising gives you the right to operate one Jerk King restaurant using our trademark and operating system.
We offer an Area Development Agreement for those qualified candidates looking to build a bigger business. It will give you the right and obligation to open and operate a specified number of restaurants according to an agreed timetable. You and we will agree on the size of the territory, the number of restaurants, and the opening schedule before we sign the Area Development Agreement. The fee for an Area Development Agreement is $30,000 x the number of restaurants you desire. As you open each restaurant, you will sign a Franchise Agreement for that restaurant and receive a discount of 50% off the then current initial fee.
